Living Arts Gallery

One project of High Desert Living Arts Center is the Living Arts Gallery in Old Town Yucca Valley, which serves as HDLAC’s public face and as a working model of our founding principles.
The Living Arts Gallery features 10-15 local artists, and functions like any other art gallery, with two important differences. Firstly, a portion of all money raised through sales at the gallery is donted back to HDLAC to fund educational activities and to expand our list of programs. Secondly, all Living Arts Gallery artists actually teach classes that are open to the public – and many teach at HDALC’s After School Program. In this way, the Gallery really does imbody the concept of “Living Arts.”
The Living Arts Galley also illustrates HDLAC core principle of generating subsidised education by incorporating the interests of local artists. By offering low-cost display space, utilities, and insurance, HDLAC provides a profitable business environment for local artists. In exchange for this, artists agree to teach a variety of classes at the gallery and at local schools. These classes are, as a result, practical, hands-on, and most importantly they are affordable.

High Desert Living Arts Center offers our local and extended community a range of free and reduced-cost education in the arts and living sciences, without the need for continuing support. Living Art Gallery classes are open to the public, and to all ages, but our emphasis is providing art instruction to local children who might otherwise not be able to afford it. In 2005, we provided over 2400 hours in scholarship art classes to children in the Morongo Basin – and a quarter of all HDLAC students receive instruction that is completely free! We compensate for the high cost of education in an efficient and sustainable manner.

Monthly Artist Parties

The Living Arts Gallery and Learning Center hosts an artist party to showcase one HDLAC artist on the 4th Friday of each month. This is an opportunity to meet artists, learn about their work and inspiration – and to inquire about classes being offered at the Gallery. Each party is designed by the artist and includes food, beverages, and entertainment. Join us in the celebration!
